Mission:
Mission 6: Echoes of the Interphase
Location: Azrel's Quarters
Timeline: Current
Aze had tidied up her quarters so she wouldn't be too embarrassed to have guests. She rarely entertained in her own quarters, opting for the recreation room instead for most gatherings she arranged.
She tapped into her desk terminal, sending the following message to Meredith.
*Old Trill films at my place tonight. Interested?*
Meredith got the message. She had some free time for once. All the paperwork was done. She was off duty. She and Darrod didn't have plans. Engineers were even busier than yeoman. She had just been going to read in her quarters. It might be fun to have a girls' night instead. And she had talked to Aze about those films awhile ago. It sounded fun. She sent her reply.
*Sure thing. What time?*
Her console bleeped as a message came in. She read and then replied...
*19:00. Do you want any popcorn?*
*Yea, definitely*
Meredith replied swiftly.
On picking up the message. Vox replied back before attending to finish setting up for the movie.
*See you at 19:00.*
When 19:00 came, Meredith was outside her door. She chimed.
Aze, who was now in a pair of black leggings and a low cut top with short sleeves that showed off a little cleavage and her Trill spots as they flowed down the sides of gwe face, down her neck and down around the edge of the exposed front of her top, disappearing under the fabric, had just finished preparing the snacks when the door chimed.
"Seno em yum" she called out. She realised she used her native language. " I mean, come on in. "
Meredith came in, smiling as she walked over to Aze. Her nostrils flared briefly. "Something smells good," she complimented.
"Definitely. There's something about the smell freshly made popcorn that is so good. I do enjoy popcorn but not as much as Torbin did."
"Torbin? Meredith started to ask as she headed for the couch. "Oh! One of your past hosts, right?"
"Torbin was my first host. So, ready to watch this documentary on the ancient city of Furez?" Aze asked.
"I am!" Meredith agreed enthusiastically.
The two sat on Azrel's lush, comfortable couch in front of a screen that she had set up. Two large bowls of popcorn were on the small table directly in front of them.
"So, this isn't a film as such, it's a documentary. It basically explains the history, from what our archaeologists have been able to determine from their excavations of the ruins. The city is remarkably well preserved, considering it's over a thousand years old. It is still a mystery as to why it was abandoned and why our planetary capital is now over a thousand kilometres north east. There are a plethora of theories, mind you. I will shut up now and let you watch it."
"It sounds really interesting," Meredith said, bringing some popcorn to her mouth. She went quiet then. Her gaze was focused on the screen.
As the documentary finished, Aze chopped her way through another handful of popcorn. She turned to Meredith.
" So, how was that? I hope to visit the ruins someday, but it's hard to arrange as there are a fair number of restrictions. " Aze commented.
"It was interesting," Meredith said. "Why is it so restricted?"
"Well" Aze replied. She then gulped her beverage." It's mostly archaeological preservation, considering how old the site is. There are burials there as well. Plus, some areas are not very safe, structurally. So, only members of the Archaeological Team and permitted persons are allowed access, with guided supervision."
Aze replied.
"I would love to visit." She added.
"Well," Meredith said. "I'm a yeoman. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's navigating bureaucracy."
"So I have heard. Hmm, maybe we should try to get a supervised tour. I've always wanted to go. "
"We just have to get leave on Trill," Meredith commented. "Which might be harder."
" Potentially yes but I am a Trill and a joined one as well. I might have a little bit of influence if we can get permission on the Starfleet side of things." Aze responded.
"It's not getting permission to go to Trill that's the problem," Meredith suggested. "It's getting the timing right so that most of the leave won't be travel time."
" Ohhh of course. We need to be close by at the time of the leave to save on travel time so we have more exploration time at Furrez." Aze replied.
"Exactly," Meredith said. "But it should be manageable."
"I will handle getting us permission to visit Furez. You have to seek permission from the Trill Archaeological Commission (TAC). I have a friend who works there, so maybe that will help, as she does owe me a favour."
"Sounds like a plan," Meredith said. "We can also probably demonstrate we have a bona fide academic interest."
"How would we go about doing that?" Aze asked, somewhat confused. Other than her obsession with the ruins going back to her childhood, she wasn't sure how they would have an academic interest.
"You don't think so?" Meredith asked, surprised.
" No, I'm just not sure how we would demonstrate that."
"Through Starfleet," Meredith said. "We're explorers. It's a scientific and historical site."
"Oooh. Of course. Yes. Forgive me. Just dealing with some things at the moment which is somewhat affecting my focus."
